Construction work is set to start next Monday on the Interstate 74 bridges over Main Street in Galesburg.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, the project will involve joint replacement and deck resurfacing.

I-74 will be reduced to one lane in both directions during the work period, which is expected to wrap up in September.

Motorists can expect delays when traveling through the area and should allow for extra time on trips or avoid the area, when feasible, utilizing alternate routes.

Drivers are also urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using a mobile device, and be alert for workers and equipment in the area.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,500 miles of highway and 9M square feet of bridge decking as part of the Rebuild Illinois Capital Program, which is investing over $33 billion into all modes of transportation.

Year Two accomplishments include approximately $5.2 billion of improvements statewide on 3,020 miles of highway, 270 bridges, and 428 additional safety improvements.

IDOT has an updated, interactive map detailing construction projects around the state.
