Galesburg Police on Saturday, April 16th, responded to the intersection of East Knox and Day Streets for a report of a male subject pointing a firearm at another male on a bicycle. The male on the bicycle told police a green laser was hitting him – then the male noticed it appeared to be a laser sight on a handgun with an extended magazine being pointed at him. Officers arrived and made contact with 27-year-old Anthony Cheeks whom officers knew to have a valid Knox County warrant. Cheeks was taken into custody. A search of his person turned up a long-handled hand-held temperature scanner, a set of brass knuckles, and a baggie containing 2 1/2 orange pills, according to police reports. The pills were identified as Suboxone – a schedule 3 controlled substance. Cheeks was transported to the Knox County Jail. He was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and a valid warrant for Violation of the Sex Offender Registry.
