Former Galesburg Alderwoman Lindsay Hillery was found guilty of unlawful possession of meth in a bench trial on Thursday.

Hillery resigned from the Galesburg City Council in July of 2021.

Although several community leaders, including fellow aldermen, had urged her to resign, the only thing short of a resignation that could have removed her was a felony conviction.

Hillery was elected to the Council in April of 2019 and then was arrested for meth possession in May 2021 after a traffic stop led officers to find less than a gram of meth in a cigarette container.

Still, she would not resign for another two months in the meantime racking up more arrests for misdemeanor battery and violating an order of protection.

Prosecutors ended up dropping both of the misdemeanor charges.

Hillery testified at her meth possession trial that the drugs officers found were not hers.

She’ll face sentencing from Judge Richard Gambrell on August 18 at 1:30 p.m.
