
A coach and teacher that mentored generations of Galesburg area youth passed away last week.
Bill Morgan was 91 years old when he died on Friday at home surrounded by loved ones.
Bill was a 1949 graduate of Galesburg High School, who went on to play basketball at what is now Western Illinois University.
After graduating he served the U.S. in the Korean War he dreamed of returning to his hometown to teach and coach.
Bill and his brother Bob became a legendary duo in the classroom and court, known as Mr. Bill and Mr. Bob.
In 2010 the Churchill Junior High Gym was renamed Morgan Gym after the brothers.
Bill told the Register-Mail reflecting on that renaming, “Nobody had a better job than Bob and I.”
Bob survives but has relocated to Indianapolis.
Bill Morgan also leaves behind four adults children, 11 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Bill Morgan will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors in Galesburg with services to follow at noon.
