Fall Clean-Up days in the City of Galesburg return these next two weeks, Sept. 12 – 16 and Sept. 19 – 23.

Known by unofficial names like anything goes or big trash week, each household that’s a regular refuse customer will have one day assigned for clean-up collection.

Residences will collect their bulky items on the day or week their recycling is normally collected. That means odd week recycling households will be this week, and households on the even week recycling schedule will be next week.

The City advises you have items out by 6 a.m. on the pick-up day.

Refuse customers can place many items that normally wouldn’t be allowed on the curb for free but there are some guidelines.

All loose items are required to be bagged or bundled. Cumbersome items, such as playsets or antenna towers, should be broken down or disassembled. Doors should be removed from large appliances for safety.

Some other items not accepted include liquid paint, auto batteries, propane tanks, boards with exposed nails, certain electronics like computer equipment, and video game consoles.

You can find options for electronics and paint recycling on the City’s website in the Recycling and Solid Waste Brochure.

No loose trash or construction/ demolition debris will be accepted.
