Just before 2:00 in the morning on Tuesday morning, September 13th, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Grand Avenue for a vehicle accident and a domestic disturbance involving an intoxicated driver. Officers arrived and met with a male individual who said he and his girlfriend had been drinking and arguing all day. According to police reports, an SUV was in the driveway with its hazard lights on, and the male said his girlfriend hit the back of his pickup truck. Police made contact with the 45-year-old female suspect who denied driving and was uncooperative with police. She had glossy eyes, slurred when she spoke and was emitting an alcoholic odor. The male told police that during their argument, the female got in her SUV and rammed it into the back of the truck and the male had to quickly move out of the way to avoid being struck. The SUV’s airbags had deployed. The female refused to conduct a field sobriety test. The woman was taken into custody and later admitted to driving the SUV and striking the truck. She was charged with DUI A2, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Assault, and Criminal Damage to Property.
