
A man wanted for murder in the July shooting death of Gregory D. Tucker has been extradited from Florida and is in Knox County Jail custody.
33-year-old Asheem Monte Afutu has had a warrant for his arrest on charges of murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm since July 27th.
If convicted on all charges he faces the possibility of 45 years to life in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
He made his first appearance in Knox County Court Friday afternoon where bond was set at $1,000,000.
Afutu was also assigned the Public Defender.
Back in July, police responded to a call of shots fired in the 2100 block of Grand Avenue early Sunday, July 24th in the empty lot between 2051 and 2085 Grand.
First responders were advised of a male subject arriving at OSF St. Mary’s Hospital by private vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound.
The male, later identified as Tucker was Life Flighted to OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The Knox County Sheriff Department’s app says that Afutu was booked at the jail just after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
