Community members are encouraged to come out to Galesburg Junior Senior High School Tuesday, November 1, for a town hall meeting over school safety.

Some behavioral and safety concerns have spurred administrators at Galesburg Junior Senior High School to hold the school safety town hall.

Principal Tom Hawkins informed the school board this month that concerns were expressed by staff members and plans were made by the steering committee to get the community involved in a meeting.

“So this is something that we are very concerned about. We are being proactive about it,” he told board members on November 10. “We look forward to everyone’s participation in it. We want to make this a community event, not just an event for high school-aged students. Because we know from talking to other principals that there are some behaviors in their school that they are quite concerned with as well.”

School administrators are hoping to get some good ideas to squash their concerns from the meeting and help the family engagement specialists to address behavioral concerns.

If community members wish to attend and do not have a way to the Junior Senior High School, transportation will be provided. The district will also provide food as well.
