After countless meeting hours over the last several months, the Knox County Board approved the FY 2022/23 budget and tax levy last week.
Both of these items will be on public display until they are considered again next month.
The total levy is an increase of almost $229,000 but the tax rate dropped to 1.29 or roughly $1.29 per thousand dollars of taxable property.
“While significantly small, it’s still a large number in the grand scheme of the total assessed valuation for Knox County: $991,220,000 EAV,” said Republican Knox County Board Chair Jared Hawkinson at Wednesday’s board meeting. “So, really when you incorporate that 1.29% that’s a large number, at least in my pocketbook.”
Hawkinson adds that in a time of record inflation, the county put in the hours to get the budget balanced.
