Annual Veterans Day Parade set for Sunday in Downtown Galesburg

Galesburg will honor veterans at the 22nd annual Veterans Day Parade on Sunday afternoon.

The 2022 Galesburg Veterans Day parade steps off along Main Street at 2 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 6). Afghanistan war veteran and Galesburg native Army Sergeant Jonathan Tracy will serve as the grand marshal.

The parade will organize near Chambers and Main streets at 1 p.m. and follow the usual route down East Main Street, turning south on Cherry Street before concluding at the Knox County Courthouse.

Parade organizer Ryan Hummel said he expects more than 60 entries for Sunday’s parade, including all local veterans organizations, both Illinois Army National Guard units with equipment, community groups including Boy and Girl Scouts, small businesses, the Galesburg Marching Streaks band and the Patriotic Guard.

Groups or individuals interested in joining the parade can show up the day of the event, or contact Hummel at (309) 368-9379.

A soup supper event for active duty, veterans and their families will be held around 3 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Hall, 1001 Michigan Ave.
