James T. Haynes, 90, of Bushnell Illinois passed away on December 12, 2022, at OSF Holy Family Hospital in Monmouth, Illinois.

He was born August 30, 1932, to George Thatcher Haynes and Doris Ellen Carson. He was married to Marcia Anne Eckley on June 4, 1954, in Monmouth, Illinois.

He attended Lone Stare School in Warren County, Illinois, and graduated from Alexis Community High School in 1950. He earned B.S. and M.S. Degrees from Texas Christian University and Education Specialist Degree from Western Illinois University.

An educator by profession, Haynes taught American and World History at Paschal High School in Ft. Worth, Texas, and Bushnell Prairie City High School, Bushnell, Illinois. He was the Assistant Regional Superintendent of Schools in the Hancock-McDonough Counties Education Service Region and was a member of numerous professional education organizations.

Haynes served in the United States Army from 1954-1956 and was stationed at Ft. Richardson Alaska, HQ & HQ Company Special Troops, US Army Alaska.

In his lifetime Haynes pursued an interest in flying, held a Private Pilot License, and restored and flew a 1949 Piper Clipper. He authored three books on the history of aviation in western Illinois and published newsletters for flying organizations.

Haynes is survived by his four children, Emily Sue Nelson (Ron), George Thatcher Haynes (Sarah), Mary Anne Schwartz, Sarah Beth Benn (Dirk), eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no formal services will be held. His ashes will be laid to rest in the Monmouth City Cemetery next to his wife Marcia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Bushnell Public Library or to the Monmouth Flying Club. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
