While on routine patrol around 3:20 in the morning on Sunday, January 1st, Galesburg Police observed a white male subject passed out in the grass near the intersection of North Broad and West North Street. Officers attempted to make contact with the man who was emitting a strong alcoholic odor. Police had to shake the man for several minutes to get him to wake up. The 24-year-old man with blood-shot eyes and slurred speech told officers where he lived but then attempted to walk away in the wrong direction. The man was informed he was under arrest for public intoxication. A search of the man’s backpack turned up over 60 grams of cannabis. Back at the Public Safety Building, the man offered a breath sample which read his BAC as .023. The man was charged with Public Intoxication and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis over 30 grams.
