60-year-old man arrested after attempting to stab 64-year-old father-in-law

Galesburg police yesterday afternoon (January, 8th) responded to the 200 block of North West Street for a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers met with a 64-year-old male victim who said he was expecting his nephew to come over, but when he answered his door, a 60-year-old Aledo man attempted to stab him in the stomach. According to police reports, the 60-year-old assailant is married to the victim’s 31-year-old daughter. The victim’s three grandchildren were at the residence at the time and witnessed the attack. The assailant then chased the victim into the house before fleeing. The male suspect was then taken into custody by police on Academy Street. A GPD K9 unit recovered the knife in a backyard. According to police reports, the altercation stemmed from the victim having custody of the suspect’s step-children. The male suspect was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Domestic Battery, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Home Invasion.
