January: Kids’ Art Month at Galesburg Community Arts Center

Kids’ Month has returned to Galesburg Community Arts Center.

Calling all kids! Kids’ Month has returned to Galesburg Community Arts Center. Explore their Permanent Collection at a variety of Creation Stations and participate in a community collaborative art installation including Surrealist Handscapes, Figure Sculptures with Mache, Abstract Paper Painting, Relief Printmaking, and Impressionism with Light. Grades K-5 may attend Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon, through Jan. 21. Grades 6-8 may attend Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Come once or come multiple times, but create art each time! There will be an exhibition with works created Jan. 26 and 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. with a closing reception and artwork pickup on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 1 to 3 p.m. This event is free, in person, and while supplies last. Jan. 11-15 (Wednesday-Sunday): Reserve Artisan Ales One Year Anniversary Celebration

Galesburg’s only Pour-Your-Own craft brewery, Reserve Artisan Ales, and its attached event space, The Vault, is celebrating their first anniversary this week, January 11th through 15th at their business, located at 185 S. Kellogg Street in Downtown Galesburg. The celebration kicks off with not one, not two, but THREE beer releases beginning Wednesday with Vanilla Cream Ale, followed by Port Wine Barrel Aged with Cherries Wyld Juanita 4.0 on Thursday, and finally Cinnamon Bun Unvailing Imperial Stout on Friday. Come downtown for Happy Hour on Thursday and Saturday from 5-7 p.m. and 1-3 p.m., respectively, and eat delicious Big Catz BBQ from 5-9 p.m. on Friday or Saturday. Don’t drink alcohol? Come to the Athletic Brewing Non-Alcoholic Beer Tasting in the Taproom on Saturday, from 3-5 p.m. Enjoy live music from John Drake Friday evening and some fun and games during BURGO, Galesburg’s version of BINGO, a partnership between Reserve Artisan Ales and Experience Galesburg, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Taproom. Jan. 13 (Friday): Miguel Zenon Quartet: Mirza Jazz Residency at The Orpheum Theatre

The Jerome Mirza Jazz Residency at Knox College brings world-renowned jazz artists to campus for a week of intensive and collaborative jazz activities with Knox College students, culminating in a free public concert at The Orpheum Theatre at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13. This year, the concert features Miguel Zenon’s Quartet who is set to perform with various Knox Jazz Groups. Zenon represents a select group of musicians who have masterfully balanced and blended the often contradictory poles of innovation and tradition. Widely considered as one of the most groundbreaking and influent saxophonists of his generation, the Puerto Rican born Grammy Nominated artist has developed a unique voice as a composer and as a conceptualist, concentrating his efforts on perfecting a fine mix between Latin American Folkloric Music and Jazz.
