
Last Wednesday, (January 4th) Galesburg Police responded to the 1700 block of Jefferson Street and met with a 66-year-old man who discovered his 2015 Chevy pick-up was rummaged through. The man’s security footage only showed a subject running away from the area during the time of the incident.
GPD also last Wednesday responded to the 2000 block of North Broad after a man and woman reported someone rummaged through and took the man’s wallet. Someone attempted to use the man’s debit card in Woodhull and at the Shell station in Galesburg. The wallet was recovered down the street by the victims.
Then last Wednesday, GPD responded to the 2000 block of Lincoln Park Drive. A man reported his employer-owned SUV was rummaged through, but nothing was taken. A woman on Lincoln Park Drive reported multiple vehicles were rummaged through in her driveway, and all the doors were left cracked open. Police then responded to the 1500 block of North Academy after a man and woman reported someone stole their garage door opener from their SUV.
Again last Wednesday, GPD responded to the 3000 block of Morningside Drive after a woman reported someone attempted to enter her vehicle around 2:00 in the morning the night before. The woman’s security footage showed a second subject attempting to enter her neighbor’s vehicle as well. The two subjects took off running when the woman’s neighbor’s dogs started barking. All of the incidents remain under investigation.
Police last Wednesday recovered a stolen Hyundai sedan in the 1000 block of Olive Street. The vehicle was reported stolen earlier that morning and was recovered in the 1200 block of Garden Lane. GPD took possession of the vehicle so it could be processed for prints.
Galesburg Police on Friday morning responded to the 1400 block of North Cherry Street for reports of a stolen vehicle. The male victim told police he mistakenly left the keys in the ignition of the company-owned 2021 Dodge truck. Later that morning, Galesburg police were contacted by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department when the vehicle was recovered at a residence in Dallas City, Illinois. The vehicle was left behind undamaged, while another vehicle was stolen from that property. Illinois State Police took possession of the vehicle and were holding it for fingerprints.
