Four students represented Galesburg High School at Illinois Music Educators Association All-State band concerts last weekend in Peoria.

Selected to participate from Galesburg were:

  • William Edwards – Sophomore, violin in the All-State Orchestra
  • Keaton Empey – Junior, trombone in the All-State Jazz Band
  • Juniper Schwartzman – Senior, French horn in the All-State Concert Band
  • Brady Warner – Senior, tenor saxophone in the All-State Concert Band

According to Andy Empey, Director of Bands and District Fine Arts Coordinator, Galesburg had 39 band and choir students who auditioned in District 2 last October. Eventually, four students were chosen to advance, and the All-State performances were held this past weekend at the Peoria Civic Center.

The All-State Conference was Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Peoria Civic Center.  Students began rehearsals on the Thursday and had their concerts on both Friday and Saturday in Carver Arena.

Empey tells WGIL, “We are so proud of our All-State musicians and the amazing accomplishment to be chosen from hundreds of musicians from across our state. It takes an amazing amount of time, dedication, and hard work to perform at the level these students are playing at. The All-State concerts were outstanding. Congratulations to all of them.”
