An officer-involved shooting in Stark County resulted in one man’s death on Saturday, Feb. 18.
According to a release from the Illinois State Police, a request was made to have the Division of Criminal Investigation look into the shooting from this weekend.
Preliminary information indicates that, at around 6:30 a.m., the Henry County Special Operations Squad, comprised of officers from multiple agencies, was attempting to execute an arrest/search warrant at a residence in the 500-block of North Olive St. in Toulon.
The officers encountered the male subject, later identified as 66-year-old Rodney G. Williams, of Toulon, inside an apartment when he reportedly attempted to strike police with a machete. Officers discharged their firearms, striking the Williams. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
