Teens facing cannabis charges after traffic stop – third teen flees

Galesburg Police, around 1:30 in the morning last Wednesday, observed a vehicle pull out of the East Main Street Circle K. without yielding to oncoming traffic, and was traveling without properly working taillights. After officers conducted a traffic stop, a back-seat male passenger exited the vehicle and took off running. The driver was identified as an 18-year-old Galesburg man, along with a 17-year-old male passenger and a 16-year-old male passenger. None of the teens that stayed in the car would identify the passenger the fled. Police could detect a cannabis odor inside the car. A baggie of cannabis and a burnt cannabis blunt was found inside the car. An opened package of Swisher Sweets cigars was also found. The driver was arrested and charged with Failure to Yield, Illegal Possession of Cannabis, and No Taillights. The backseat, a 17-year-old passenger was charged with Illegal Possession of Tobacco by a minor and Illegal Possession of Cannabis.
