
Night Time Police Violent Crime Intervention. Police Vehicles with Flashing Lights.
Shortly before midnight Wednesday night, Galesburg Police observed a sedan run a stop sign near Blaine Avenue and East Main Street. The sedan, in lieu of waiting for a red light, pulled into the Dollar General parking lot and exited onto East Main. Police began to follow the sedan onto Locust Street where the driver ran another stop sign and then another when police attempted to stop the vehicle. The sedan reached speeds of over 80 miles per hour at one point while traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue. The sedan attempted to turn onto Ohio Avenue but struck a light pole in the process. The male driver exited the vehicle and began running he was eventually detained in the 600 block of Indiana Avenue. Inside the vehicle, officers found about $500 in cash, and the 26-year-old man’s social security card. The man also dropped a Springfield XD40 firearm under an SUV while fleeing from police. After being arrested, the man denied possessing a firearm, but officers viewed subjects looking under the vehicle where the firearm was found. The man was also seen texting someone when he was detained. Ultimately, the man is facing a Class 3 Felony of being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, a Class 3 Felony for Violation of the FOID Card Act, a Class 4 Felony for Aggravated Fleeing, Resisting a Peace Officer, and numerous traffic and driving offenses.
