Galesburg Police on Sunday morning responded to Hy-Vee on East Main Street for an unwanted individual inside the store who had been previously banned. Officers arrived and met with employees. A 36-year-old Galesburg man, whom police and employees are familiar with, observed the man approach the self-checkout and scan numerous items. The man did not run his card or attempt to pay in cash and then departed. The man also left his cell phone behind at the self-checkout. Officers then made contact with the male suspect in the backyard of a residence. The man denied stealing the items and admitted to leaving his phone behind. He was taken into custody and charged with Retail Theft of less than $300. The same man was arrested and charged with Battery and Disorderly Conduct after an incident last Wednesday night at the East Main Street McDonald’s.
