Galesburg Police on Tuesday were dispatched to the 400 block of South Soangetaha Road in reference to an unknown medical call.

Dispatchers informed police a female caller reported her friend had broken her leg and was bleeding. Police met with the 26-year-old female victim who had a blood-soaked towel wrapped around her leg. She said she and her friend were walking in Kiwanis Park when they heard a loud “bang” and the woman’s leg was bleeding. Paramedics then informed the woman that the victim did not have a broken leg – she was shot.

She was taken to OSF St. Mary Medical Center. The victim would not offer any further information to police. The victim also wouldn’t let officers photograph her injury. Officers attempted to locate any shell casings at Kiwanis Park but found none. The family and friends of the victim were also uncooperative with police.

The investigation is ongoing.
