Mr. Jimmie D. Gordon, 70, of Abingdon, passed away at 6:50 AM, Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.
Jimmie was born on December 2, 1952, to Dewey and Donna Lodene (Wilkins) Gordon in Galesburg. He married the love of his life Carolyn (Bradshaw) Gordon on October 6, 1979, in Winchester, Illinois, and had spent 44 wonderful love-filled years together.
Jimmie is survived by his wife Carolyn Gordon; his mother Donna Gordon; his children Kate Gordon of Abingdon, and Shane (Jessica) Gordon of Mt. Vernon; his brothers Mike (Kim) Gordon, of Abingdon, Bob Gordon of Foley, Alabama, and Kent (Sue) Gordon of Abingdon; and six grandchildren Kellen Hook, Evan Hook, Lyla Gordon, Beau Gordon, Mack Gordon, and Dewy Gordon.
Jimmie grew up in Abingdon, graduating from Abingdon High School in the class of 1971. Jimmie had a love of sports from a young age and loved playing any sport that he could, though he had a partiality to both football and baseball. Which led him into becoming a lifelong Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan. And once Jimmie’s kids and grandkids inherited his love of sports, he found even more joy in seeing them enjoying sports as he once did when he was a young man himself. Both Jimmie and his son Shane had a shared personal goal of visiting all 30 Major League Baseball Parks, and together they had visited a total of 20. Though what Jimmie loved more than sports was spending all the time that he could with his family.
As per Jimmie’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. A private graveside service will be held in Abingdon Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Abingdon-Avon Football, Baseball, and Basketball Programs in Jimmie’s name.
