Mid-morning on Sunday, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Circle K on North Henderson Street for a report of internal theft. Store employees reported to police that a 39-year-old male employee stole $100 from the cash register the day before, and he was currently working. As an employee began showing officers security footage of the incident, they were told the male suspect was leaving the store. Officers caught up with the man behind the store and he was detained. The man denied stealing money from the store and said Circle K had been trying to fire him for months. Employees said the man entered the store the day before, on his day off, and offered to watch the register while another employee stocked shelves. The man could be seen placing several bills on the counter and eventually into his pocket. That day, the man could be seen on security footage shuffling through folders containing the day’s register reportings. The man eventually admitted to the theft and he was arrested. He was charged with Theft of less than $500.
