Galesburg CUSD #205 school board meetings are back online with live streaming capabilities having a successful test run this week.
The newly constructed district office and board meeting room at the 940 Building made a space that was optimal for internet streaming compared to the older offices on Harrison Street.
Superintendent John Asplund told WGIL in a Tuesday interview that Monday’s first stream was a bit of a trial run to see how the technology worked together.
“Now it all works together. There’s a five-second delay for whatever reason there is. But [Monday night] was the first time we knew all of the technology was actually going to work to be able to do it. So, that’s pretty exciting now. Going forward there shouldn’t be any reason why that isn’t just how we do it from now on.”
Live streaming of board meetings was an effort of former school board member Vicki Banks. For a time, board meetings were streamed live to YouTube. But technical issues moved the district to record the meetings and upload them later.
“We would do it on a delay, so we would tape it and then you could watch it later. But, we had some technological difficulties with how our situation was set up at the old board office and just really couldn’t figure out a way to do it with what we had available there. And then during COVID, we did everything over ZOOM so then it was live.”
The new space provides significantly improved video and audio quality.
The meetings are streamed live to the District’s YouTube channel.
