Galesburg Police early Sunday responded to Dairy Queen on Grand Avenue for an activated alarm. When officers arrived, they observed the rear gated door was broken with pieces scattered on the ground nearby. Police also noticed several rolls of coins on the concrete leading to the back door of the building. The rear, metal door of the building had been pried open. Inside, the store’s office door had also been pried open and the lock was broken. Numerous items were on the floor of the office including more rolls of coins, bank deposit bags, a vape pen, earbuds, and a pry bar. The safe in the office was unlocked, but also unopened.
Cash and more rolls of coins were still inside the safe. No one was present, and no other damage was observed around the store. The alarm tripped around 3:20 am Sunday morning. The store’s owner spoke to police on the phone and said he would have to access security footage from inside the store. At the time of the report, police were still waiting to view the footage. The incident was turned over to Galesburg Police Investigators.
