Hill CC inmate found guilty of assaulting a correctional officer

An inmate at Henry Hill Correctional Center, who was serving time for drug possession and assaulting a peace officer, was again convicted of aggravated battery in an assault of a correctional officer.

32-year-old William Brown was found guilty in a bench trial this week after Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin presented compelling evidence that Brown had forcefully grabbed a female officer performing her duties, causing her to be thrown to the ground on June 19, 2022.

According to a press release from Karlin, another inmate intervened and positioned himself between Brown and the officer, enabling her to exit the housing wing and seek assistance.

Brown was incarcerated on a number of charges, including Criminal Drug Conspiracy, Aggravated Battery Causing Bodily Harm to a Peace Officer, and Possession of 15+ Grams of Cocaine.  According to online records, he had a scheduled parole date of July 5, 2023, and was to be discharged in July 2026.

The guilty verdict for a Class 2 felony typically carries a sentencing range of three to seven additional years in the Department of Corrections. Due to Brown’s eligibility for an extended term sentence, he could face a maximum of 14 additional years, serving consecutively to the sentences he is currently serving.

Brown’s sentencing is scheduled for August.
