Three officials from the Galesburg-area have been honored as IHSA Officials of the Year for 2022-23.

Each year, the IHSA recognizes one official from each of its 22 sports. Local officials receiving Official of the Year honors for 2022-23 are Dave Hasley of Abingdon for baseball, James Cahill of Galesburg for softball and Brian Rewerts of Wyoming for girls basketball.

Hasley, Cahill and Rewerts were recognized during the 2023 IHSA Officials Conference, which was held Friday and Saturday in Normal. All three officials are members of the Galesburg Area Officials Association.

“It’s quite a feather in the cap for our association,” said longtime Galesburg official Joe Thompson, president of the Galesburg Area Officials Association for more than 25 years. “It’s very rare for for three officials from the same association to be blessed with the highest honor that the IHSA issues annually.

“They’re all great guys who give back to the student athletes.”
