Galesburg man sentenced for Belle Isle Apartment shooting

A Galesburg man was sentenced Thursday in Knox County Court to 48 years in prison in connection with a March 2022 shooting at Belle Isle Apartments.

49-year-old Brandon Wilson was found guilty by a jury in January of Attempted First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Wilson shot one victim in the torso at the Belle Isle Apartments in the  1400 block of N. West Street
Judge Andrew Doyle sentenced Wilson to 28 years for attempted murder and an additional 20 years due to a sentencing enhancement; the jury found Wilson discharged a firearm in the commission of his crime.
Doyle accounted for Wilson’s lengthy criminal history and lack of remorse.
The trial in January featured testimony from Belle Isle Apartment residents, multiple Galesburg detectives and police officers, and a forensic scientist.
The jury deliberated for about an hour before returning a guilty verdict on all charges.
Wilson will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, with credit for 504 days already served.
