Galesburg Post 285 dropped its second game and was eliminated from the 2023 Illinois American Legion State Baseball Tournament on Thursday at Knox College.
Aviston Express defeated Galesburg 9-1 in a loser’s bracket game Thursday. Aviston plays Danville at noon today (Friday). Galesburg ends the season with a record of 15-14.
The game was tied at 1 after two innings before Aviston scored 3 in the top of the third and never looked back. Aviston outhit Galesburg 13-4. Jameson Dickerson went 2-for-3 for Post 285.
Based in southern Illinois and comprised of mostly college players, Aviston is the defending state champion.
In other games Thursday, Wheaton defeated Danville 11-1, and Barrington topped Rock Island 10-0.
The tournament continues with games today, and concludes with the championship at 11 a,m. Saturday at Knox College.
