One person is dead and another injured after a UTV rolled from the road into a cornfield near Gladstone.
According to Henderson County Sheriff Matthew J. Link, Hancock/Henderson 911 received reports at around 11:11 Tuesday morning of an accident with serious injuries.
Link and his deputies arrived on the scene at Townships Road 1325N, east of Township Road 1100E, to discover a 2023 Polaris UTV had rolled from the roadway into the field, where the driver had been ejected from the vehicle.
During the rollover, the driver’s door came open and Haley attempted to close it, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and overturn into the ditch.
Lifesaving treatment was performed on the driver, 79-year-old Kenneth Haley of Gladstone, until Burlington Fire Department Paramedics arrived but the driver would later be pronounced deceased at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Burlington, IA.
The passenger, 55-year-old Kathy Foley, his daughter, had worn their seatbelt and was able to free themselves after the crash. They were transported to the hospital by Biggsville Ambulance Service for injuries. She is in stable condition.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Burlington Fire Department, Gladstone Frie Department, Biggsville Ambulance Service, and Med Force Paramedics.
