Sunday morning fire at corner of Monmouth Blvd and S. Academy St ruled ‘Intentional’

Fire investigators rule that the Sunday morning fire was intentionally set.

According to a press release from the city, 11 fire personnel from all three stations responded to a structure fire at 350 Monmouth Blvd at 2:04.

Fire crews were notified of a smoke investigation at the intersection of Monmouth Blvd and S. Academy St. Upon arrival, Central Station Crews reported heavy smoke coming from a detached garage.

Acting Battalion Chief Matt Lewis responded and established command while requesting a second alarm be dropped for a structure fire.

Central Station Fire Fighters extinguished the fire with a pre-connected attack line. Brooks St. Station fire crew assisted in extinguishing the fire. The Fremont St. Station fire crew was cleared upon arrival.

All occupants of the residence were outside of the structure upon discovery of the fire.

The fire caused damage to the garage. No injuries were reported. Preliminary damage estimates are at $3,000.

Galesburg Fire Investigators did rule though that the fire was ‘Intentional.’
