Plans have received city approval, and contractors are being sought for a proposed Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins restaurant in Galesburg. It will be located at 955 N. Henderson St., site of the former Steak House.
Galesburg Director of Community Development Steve Gugliotta confirmed the developer has met requirements and he said the city will issue building permits once Dunkin’ selects contractors.
Tina Ruddy, a Dunkin franchisee and operating partner with QC Donuts, tells WGIL she will be able to comment on the timeline of project once construction is under way.
The much-anticipated arrival of the world’s leading baked goods and coffee chain gained traction in August 2022 when QC Galesburg Properties LLC purchased property at 951 and 969 N. Henderson St. The vacant lot at 951 N. Henderson St. is the site of the former Steak House restaurant. The adjoining lot at 969 N. Henderson St. was most recently the location of a psychic readings business. The structure would be demolished to make room for Dunkin’.
QC Donuts operates 14 Dunkin’ stores in the Quad Cities and Des Moines, Iowa.
The Dunkin/Baskin Robbins restaurant will feature a drive-thru, inside dining space and a patio area for outside dining. According to building plans obtained from the city, the dinning room would have nine tables and 32 seats.
The site plan shows the building would be 2,520 square feet in size. Vehicles would enter on the south side of the property, while walk-in patrons would enter Dunkin’ through a door on the west side, facing Henderson Street. A drive-thru menu board and order station would be located at the rear of the property, and the pickup/pay window would be on the north side of the building — next to Lim’s Ice Cream.
Founded in 1950, Dunkin’ is the world’s leading baked goods and coffee chain, serving more than 3 million customers each and every day. They offer 50-plus varieties of doughnuts, but they also serve dozens of premium beverages, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods.
It would mark the first Dunkin’ restaurant in Galesburg. Galesburg previously had a Baskin-Robbins at the site of the current Lim’s Ice Cream store.
