Galesburg Police on Tuesday night conducted a traffic stop on a sedan with a defective muffler near the intersection of East North Street and North Pearl. When officers approached the vehicle, they knocked on the driver’s side window. The driver opened the door and, according to police reports, a large cloud of smoke emitted from the sedan. The driver, a 20-year-old Henderson man, had bloodshot and glossy eyes and admitted to smoking cannabis. Officers observed rolling trays, cannabis grinders, and a smoking device in plain view in the back seat. Officers also found THC concentrate and additional smoking devices inside the car. The driver stepped out and was taken into custody after a field sobriety test indicated signs of impairment. The man was taken to the Public Safety Building where he also provided police with a blood sample. He was cited for the defective muffler and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs and Illegal Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle.
Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, Galesburg Police observed an SUV traveling near the Public Square with no headlights or taillights. GPD stopped the SUV on East Main. Police then made contact with the 37-year-old male driver of Friend, Nebraska. The man admitted that he had “four to five” beers at a bar. The man swayed as he stood and slurred his words. After a field sobriety test indicated signs of impairment and he was taken into custody. According to police reports, the man was very cooperative with police and apologized numerous times. He agreed to submit a breath sample which read his BAC as .203. He was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence, Driving Under the Influence with a BAC over .08, and Driving without headlights.
