Shortly after 7:30pm on Sunday, Galesburg Police responded to an apartment in the 600 block of South Academy Street for a disturbance. Dispatch received a report of a male suspect battering a female subject. Police made contact with the 35-year-old female victim through an apartment window because the male suspect was not answering the door or allowing the woman to leave. The woman was covered in bruises and told police the man choked her at one point. The argument started the night before when the male subject took the victim’s phone so she could not contact anyone. The woman ran to a bedroom and the man followed, grabbing the back of her neck and dragging her around the room, according to police reports. The woman had scratches and bruises all over her face, neck, arms, and legs. The 40-year-old man denied anything physical occurred. He was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Domestic Battery and Interfering with the Reporting of Domestic Battery.
