Galesburg City Council chambers at City Hall.

Galesburg City Council on Monday night approved $60,000 towards funding a warming shelter for the cold months.

The Knox County Housing Authority will operate the shelter at 525/527 Iowa Court in partnership with the Salvation Army.

The center will be open from Nov.1 through April 30, 7 days a week 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Alderman Dwight White asked about transportation to get people to the Iowa Court location.

KCHA Executive Director Derek Antoine says similar to last year the city bus will be able to transport individuals.

Director of Community Development Steve Gugliotta says the last bus leaves downtown around 5:30 p.m. which would get individuals to the center as they open.

Antoine says there’s a community room at Iowa Court that can be used for individuals during the day if they have nowhere to go.
