Galesburg Police on Saturday morning – shortly after midnight, were dispatched to the 400 block of Oak Street for a suspicious vehicle. A caller reported a suspicious truck was running and had been sitting in the middle of the street for 40 minutes. Officers arrived on the scene. The vehicle had its hazard lights on, was in “drive”, and police discovered a male driver was inside slumped over the steering wheel. Police woke the 42-year-old Galesburg man who immediately stepped out and put his hands up. The man was slurring his words and admitted to having “a couple of beers.” Police had difficulty understanding the man. The man refused to perform a field sobriety test and requested a lawyer. He also refused to provide a breath sample. The man was placed under arrest and eventually transported to the Knox County Jail. He was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Aggravated DUI – no insurance, and for Illegal Stopping or Parking in the roadway.

For the second time in a week, the Galesburg Police Department responded to the Circle K gas station on East Main Street for a female subject asleep in a vehicle. On Sunday, October 8th, a 36-year-old Galesburg woman was charged with DUI after found asleep behind the wheel while parked at a gas pump. On Saturday, Galesburg Police responded to the store around 5:30 in the morning for a female subject asleep inside her vehicle with the driver’s door open. Police woke the 40-year-old woman who denied drinking alcohol and agreed to a field sobriety test. Officers stopped the test early out of safety – for fear the woman would fall over and injure herself. A preliminary breath test read her BAC as .120. The woman was unaware what the legal limit was to operate a motor vehicle. She was placed under arrest and eventually transported to the Knox County Jail. She was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol A1 and DUI A2.
