A Bushnell man was taken into custody last week after an officer-involved shooting during a domestic battery call.

According to the Illinois State Police, the McDonough County Sheriff’s Department requested their assistance to investigate an officer-involved shooting in the 500-block of North Washington Street on Thursday afternoon.

ISP says that sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene to arrest 32-year-old Jesse Pickrel for Aggravated Domestic Battery.

During that attempt, the Bushnell man allegedly came at the deputy with an ax. The sheriff’s deputy fired multiple rounds at Pickrel– who fled the scene and was later apprehended.

Neither the deputy nor Pickrel sustained any injuries in the altercation. Pickrel is being held in the McDonough County Jail.

The Illinois State Police continue to investigate the shooting.
