Man accused of killing Knox County deputy has trial continued into 2024

Daylon Richardson, who is accused of killing Knox County Deputy Nick Weist with a car, won’t stand trial until the new year.

150 potential jurors had been summoned Monday morning but then dismissed by Judge Norma Kauzlarich so she could address motions filed by both attorneys.

The Judge continued the case into January over the objection of Richardson’s attorney Bruce Carmen.

Richardson has been charged with murder but on Monday pleaded guilty to lesser aggravated fleeing and  gun charges.

The plea is open, meaning the defense and prosecutors can make any recommendation on a sentence.

Richardson will be tried on the two counts of first-degree murder on Jan. 8.

He’s been held in the Henry County Jail since April 2022 when the alleged murder took place.
