Galesburg Police yesterday responded to Target for a report of an ongoing retail theft. Officers met with asset protection employees at the store who had a female juvenile in custody. The 17-year-old Monmouth girl told police that she and her friends steal from Target to “brag” to one another. The teens mainly stole clothing and cosmetic items. Target provided Galesburg Police with the list of stolen items since July of this year totaling over $450 worth of merchandise. The teen, after giving police the names of the other three girls, said sometimes they came to Target alone, and other times they all came together to steal. She admitted they were inspired to steal from a TikTok video. The store had all four girls on video surveillance shoplifting. The other three girls turned themselves in at the Public Safety Building. All four girls, three of which are 17 years old and one being 15 years old were all charged with Retail Theft and banned from Target.
