Over 100 Salvation Army Angel tree tags remain as deadline looms

With about a day to there are still over 100 Salvation Army Angel Tree children that haven’t been shopped for.

That’s according to Galesburg Salvation Army Director of Operations Meghan Templeton who says that the deadline is Friday to drop off Angel Tree gifts to their offices at 510 N. Kellogg St.

That number also represents some tags that have been taken but without the presents dropped off.

“Those 100 missing Angels or unfilled Angels, that’s a lot of kids for us to fulfill the need for last minute, “ Templeton says.

“So, we’re hoping the community can come together these last few days and help us do some shopping for these families.”

Angel Tree is a program where community members take a tag with a few items to buy for a child’s Christmas wishlist, who otherwise may not have presents.

Kids in the program are babies through age 13.

Templeton says there are trees with angel tags on them at Yemm Chevrolet, the Knox County YMCA and Walmart.

“Anybody who has children knows how special and magical Christmas is and we just hope to keep that spirit alive for families and hope it eases stress and burden so families can have a happy Christmas morning,” Templeton says.

Templeton says they did have more families sign up this year and even have about 50 families on a waitlist.
