Several listeners and online readers have contacted WGIL to see if a longtime popular Mexican restaurant is closing.

Question: Is The Taco Hideout closing?

Answer: “Absolutely not. We are not closing. It’s not remotely close to being true,” said Jack Perez, longtime owner of The Taco Hideout, 1256 W. Berrien St.

Perez has owned The Taco Hideout for 29 years, taking over from his parents Lupe and Jessie Perez who opened the popular Mexican restaurant in 1964.

“This is the best year we’ve ever had, and before that, last year was the best year of business we’ve ever had,” Perez said. “We just keep surpassing the year before. We are doing great.

“I bet five people have asked me the same thing in the last two weeks. There’s no truth to it. We’ll just keep chugging along.”
