Galesburg City Council to skip first meeting of 2024. Here’s why.

The Galesburg City Council will meet just one time in January. Galesburg has cancelled the Tuesday, Jan. 2 meeting due to a lack of pressing items and also the close proximity to the New Year’s holiday.

New Galesburg City Manager Eric Hanson tells WGIL, “Obviously, if we had things that were pressing or that we needed to do, we would have the meeting. But we had very limited items to begin with, and nothing that couldn’t wait until the next meeting.

“We also had some people who would have to rush back from holidays, and this allows them a little more flexibility for their personal travels.”

The next meeting of the Galesburg City Council is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16. Normally scheduled for Mondays, the meeting is moved to Jan. 16 due to the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday landing on Monday, Jan. 15.
