Knox County has good news to enter the New Year on the unemployment front.
Knox sports a 4.6 percent unemployment rate for November according to preliminary numbers released Friday from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
That’s a drop of over 1 percentage point over October, and the lowest rate for the county since before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The City of Galesburg itself has a 5.1 percent rate and the West Central Economic Development Region is the state’s region with the lowest unemployment.
Meanwhile, the local labor force remained nearly untouched only losing 27 of those who are employed or seeking work.
The Illinois unemployment rate is 4.2 and the U.S. rate is 3.5 percent.
