Around 11:15 pm last night, the Galesburg Fire Department and Galesburg Police responded to the 700 block of West Losey Street for a structure fire. The front side of the residence was engulfed in flames. When officers arrived, a male subject was carrying a 56-year-old woman to police, according to police reports. The woman was asleep when the fire started. She had to escape through a window with help from the man. She had no coat or shoes on and was placed in a police vehicle. All three Galesburg Fire stations and 12 personnel responded and extinguished the blaze. The woman was unharmed and GPD was able to provide the woman with warmer clothing before taking her to a relative’s house. Galesburg Fire was able to retrieve the woman’s dog and two of her three cats. Preliminary damage estimates are around $15,000 and is considered unintentional, according to a press release by the City of Galesburg.
