A Knox County man was sentenced on Friday to 16 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for home invasion charges dating back to 2022.37-year-old David L. Johnson will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence after pleading guilty in November 2023.
At the sentencing hearing, the victim testified that she was home with four children that she shares with Johnson.
Johnson kicked in the back door and attacked her in front of the children. She received numerous wounds to her face including a broken nose and lacerations. Four teeth were knocked out by the blows. She testified about the traumatic effect this had on her and the older children.
Circuit Judge Andrew Doyle found that the offense caused great bodily harm. After the defendant made a statement to the court, Judge Doyle found that Johnson showed no remorse for his actions.
Johnson then on Monday filed a motion to withdraw his guilty plea.
