Harry G. “Jay” Erickson Jr. 48, of Gilson, Illinois. It is with sorrow we must announce the death of Jay Erickson. He died from complications of a stroke on January 28, 2024. He will be remembered as a great son, dad, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to many.
Jay was born September 16, 1975, to George and Mary (Powell) Erickson. He has a daughter Brionna McElrath stationed in Okinawa Japan in the Navy; son-in-law, Robbie McElrath resides in Susanville, California; a sister, Heather (Kevin) Pelton of Knoxville, Illinois; and a nephew, Dylan. He is also survived by his grandmother, Margaret Powell of Galesburg, Illinois; uncles, Wayne (Robin) Erickson of Canton, Illinois and Jim Powell of Galesburg; aunt, Mary Erickson of Apex, North Carolina. He married Emily R. Baird on July 6, 2013. She has three children, William, Madison, and James. Jay is preceded in death by his grandparents, Pete and Betty Erickson and Jim Powell; aunts, Alice (Roger) Blevins and Lynn Powell; an uncle, John Powell; and a cousin, Cassie Friend.
Jay worked at Kisler Bros. Hi-Lo in Galesburg and moved to Westrock in Galesburg and Galesburg Guns, Gear, and Ammo. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the Knox County Sheriff’s Auxiliary for over 20 years and was chief of deputies.
Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. No funeral services are planned. Cremation will be accorded following visitation.
