Around 5:31 pm last night, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to a home fire at 3-14 West 3rd Avenue in Monmouth. While responding, Engine 23 and Ladder 40 were informed of an occupant still inside the residence. A second alarm was requested. Upon arrival, firefighters found the front of the home fully engulfed, which was also threatening the neighboring residence. Crews knocked down the main body of the fire to gain entry and additional MFD firefighters arrived with the second alarm. Chief Rexroat then upgraded the response to a 3rd alarm. The first-in crews found the victim inside who unfortunately succumbed to their injuries, according to a press release by the Monmouth Fire Department. Information regarding the victim is currently being withheld. The fire was completely extinguished, and crews cleared from the scene at 8:18 PM. Agencies assisting at the scene include Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service, Monmouth Police Department, and the Warren County Sheriff’s Department. Fire Departments that responded include the RSP&E Fire Protection District, Central Warren Fire Protection District, and the Little York Fire Protection District. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Monmouth Fire Department Investigators and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
