A man was life-flighted Wednesday afternoon after an “industrial accident” at an ethanol plant in Galva, officials said.
According to a press release from the Henry County Office of Emergency Management, a contractor at Big River Resources was using a power tool in an area “thought to be free of ethanol” when residual product ignited, severely burning the man. No other injuries were reported.
A minimal amount of ethanol was spilled and was quickly contained by company officials.
The incident was reported to the Henry County Sheriff’s 911 Center around 3:35 p.m. on Wednesday. First responders provided “pre-hospital life support” while waiting for the Galva Fire Department to establish a landing zone for the medical helicopter, the release says.
