Galesburg Police responded to two separate incidents of dogs being shot over the weekend.
Police on Saturday night responded to the 300 block of North Prairie Street and met with three subjects who said an unknown man entered their residence as they sat in the living room, told the woman to keep her dog away from him, and then proceeded to pull out a handgun and shoot her dog.
The woman’s dog ran to a bathroom where it died from the gunshot.
One of the subjects inside the residence recognized the unknown suspect and knew him by his “street” name.
The investigation is ongoing – other witnesses told police of an unknown male subject in the neighborhood during the incident.
Galesburg Police then on Sunday responded to a home in the 200 block of Hawkinson Avenue after a pitbull attacked a woman’s dog in the backyard and a Galesburg man fired a single shot into the ground to get it to stop.
That man faces no charges in the incident and the Knox County Humane Society took possession of the pitbull.
