Yesterday, just before 1:00 pm, the Monmouth Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 30 Cokel Court. While en route to the incident, the dispatch center relayed information indicating the home was fully engulfed with fire. Assistant Chief Cozadd called for a “working still” requesting off-duty firefighters and an ambulance. Ladder 40, Engine 23, and Unit 505 arrived on the scene and found a mobile home with heavy fire showing from both sides of the residence.
Firefighters utilized attack lines to extinguish the fire. There were no injuries, but one resident was displaced due to the home being a total loss and is being assisted by the Red Cross. Monmouth Fire Department Investigators found the cause of the fire was related to cooking and have determined it to be accidental. Other agencies who assisted at the scene were the Monmouth Police Department and Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service. According to Fire Chief Casey Rextroat, MFD cleared from the scene at 2:19 PM.
